Water Recreation

If boating, swimming, skiing, boarding, fishing or camping on a 40,000-acre fresh water lake is just not enough entertainment, there are plenty of other activities around Lake Martin to keep your entire family entertained and happy. One of the best places to enjoy water activities on Lake Martin is Wind Creek, which hosts several events throughout the year. There are several clubs dedicated to water sports including Dixie Sailing Club, Still Waters Yacht Club, Lanier Sailing Academy and Club, and Alexander City Bassmasters.

Whether you're an experienced sailor or want to learn more about this fun sport check our the Lanier Sailing Academy Lake Martin. In addition to lessons, they offer boat rentals to qualified sailors and sunset cruises for you enjoyment.

Golf

For those that enjoy hitting 18 holes, the Lake Martin area is home to a variety of beautiful and challenging courses. Located near Dadeville is StillWaters Golf Club. Lakewinds Golf Course is an Alexander City public course located right off Highway 280 east of Alexander City. Lake Martin is centrally located among four Robert Trent Jones golf courses, and close enough to the others for a day or weekend golf trip.

In addition to the 18 holes of golf at StillWaters Resort, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail has courses nearby.

Culture, Fine Arts and History

The Alexander City Arts Council arranges for a variety of cultural performances throughout the year in Alexander City. Genres ranging from ballet to Shakespeare are enjoyed by many Lake Martin residents through the arts council. The Alexander City Jazz Fest hosts an annual two-day event in downtown Alexander City and on Lake Martin featuring many popular jazz, blues and zydeco artists from around the country. As well as other smaller venues, the world-renowned Alabama Shakespeare Festival in Montgomery holds performances throughout the year. Only an hour away, Birmingham is home to many cultural opportunities. One of the state's finest art museums is located downtown.

As the State Theatre of Alabama, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival serves as a major educational resource and lifelong learning center for the Southeast's citizens, from school children through adults, with publications, SchoolFest, and other educational programs. These efforts develop our capacity for language, thought, and imagination-vital skills for all areas of our lives.

Horseshoe Bend National Military Park is Alabama's only National Military Park. The victory here brought Andrew Jackson national attention and helped him to be elected the seventh President of the United States in 1828. This 2,040-acre park preserves the site of the battle.

Less than 30 minutes away, the Auburn and Opelika area offers shopping, cultural events and shopping.
